Step 3: Deploy
What you’ll do: start the CARP engine on the phone and deploy the protocol to it. A deployment is one participant’s copy of the protocol, running on their phone.
There are three ways to deploy. This guide uses the first:
| Protocol comes from | Good for | |
|---|---|---|
| On the phone (this guide) | Your app code | Trying things out, single-phone studies |
| Via CAWS | The CARP Portal; the app downloads it after sign-in | Real studies with many participants |
| CARP Studies App | The Portal; no app code at all | Studies that don’t need a custom app |
-
Start the engine.
SmartPhoneClientManagerruns studies on the phone.final client = SmartPhoneClientManager();await client.configure(); -
Add the study and deploy it.
final study = await client.addStudyFromProtocol(createProtocol());await client.tryDeployment(study.studyDeploymentId, study.deviceRoleName);
You’ll put this into the app, together with the next step, in Step 4.
Other ways to deploy
Section titled “Other ways to deploy”Deploy via CAWSParticipants sign in; the app downloads their study from the server.
