When the study works on your phone, put it on a CARP server so participants can join. You use the CARP Portal, the website where researchers manage studies.

  1. Get a Portal account. Researcher accounts are by invitation. Ask the CARP team on Discord or at support@carp.dk. DTU researchers can use the CARP server hosted by DTU Health Tech. You get an account on a test server first, and on production when you are ready.

  2. Create the study and upload your files. In the Portal:

    • Protocols: upload protocol.json. A protocol for a server should send data there, not save it on the phone. Ask the CARP team which data endpoint to use.
    • Resources: upload the informed consent and the translations.
    • Announcements: write the messages participants see on the Home tab.
  3. Invite participants. In Participants, invite people by email, or let them join anonymously with a short study code or a QR code. Which one to choose: Two ways to join.

  4. Test it yourself. Invite yourself and join the study in the app. On a test server, run the app from source with the matching mode:

    Terminal window
    flutter run --dart-define="deployment-mode=test"
    Mode Server
    dev dev.carp.dk
    test test.carp.dk
production carp.computerome.dk. This is what the app in the App Store and Google Play uses.
  5. Go to production. Set up the study the same way in the production Portal. Participants install CARP Studies from the App Store or Google Play and join with their invitation or the study code.

The data is uploaded to the server while the study runs. Download it in the Portal under Export, or with carp-cli. More: Use CAWS.
